Climate change is a lived reality for students across Africa, with 59% of young people globally reporting extreme climate anxiety and 75% fearing for the future. While climate education builds agency, a critical gap persists between policy and classroom reality: 64% of countries have climate education policies, yet fewer than 40% of teachers feel confident teaching it due to short-term, episodic training and a lack of localized resources. Furthermore, climate education remains heavily skewed toward abstract theory (48%) rather than practical, action-oriented learning (27%), making local community action the area of least global progress (fewer than 20%). The Pan-African Climate Education (PACE) Network was created to bridge these exact bottlenecks as a dynamic community of practice. Founded in 2023 by African Teach For All alumni, PACE brings educators together across borders through peer mentorship, community calls, and localized resource-sharing—moving climate education from theory into community resilience.
